On the sound

The piano carries everything here; there's nowhere for it to hide.

Discography

Space over spectacle.

A note on listening

Made for headphones at midnight, or a room with the lights down.

Sleeve notes

Daffodil RoamA single mood held for the length of the record — daffodils, mostly.

Who this is

Songs that tell young women their small, precise wishes matter.

In lyrical ambient, the piano is a kind of weather here — it moves through daffodils and spring the way light moves through a room, slowly and without asking.

The records — “Daffodil Roam” — are less albums than seasons: each one a long, held breath.

On Little longings

I don't choose little longings; it keeps choosing me.

Each pass got quieter until only spring was left.

Play it low. It was made low.

On being unseen

Ambient work asks you to be patient in a world that isn't. That's a strange way to spend your twenties, thirties, whatever this is.

There's no roar of a crowd in lyrical ambient; there's a person, somewhere, listening alone at midnight. I try to make it for them.

It's a quiet life. Mostly I'm grateful for it.

Behind “Daffodil Roam”

“Daffodil Roam” started the way these do — spring, at an odd hour.

The piano found the shape before I did; I stayed out of the way.

That is all it wants to be.

Q&A

What order should I listen in?
However you like — but the records are built to be heard whole, start to finish, in one sitting if you have it.
Where was this recorded?
In small rooms, close-mic'd. The room is part of the sound; that's deliberate.
What should I put this on for?
It's made for daffodils and quiet attention — reading, working late, the last hour of a day. Play it low; it was made low.
